OUR SCHOOL
Svolvær Primary and Secondary School has about 590 pupils, divided into 10 different grades, with 2 or 3 parallel classes in each grade. At the present time 11 different nationalities are represented in the student body. The school also teaches Norwegian to adult immigrants.

ABOUT SVOLVÆR AND LOFOTEN
Svolvær is the centre of Vaagan County, and has about 9400 inhabitants. The county is the 4th largest contributor to Norways booming fishing industry. It also has a large shipyard industry, in fact the largest and most recognised in the entire north of Norway

PROJECT: FROM COD TO STOCKFISH (8. GRADE)
Based on observations, measurements and comparisons, the pupils will try to answer the question which has puzzled the fishing industry for hundreds of grades: What factors affect the quality of stockfish?

PROJECT: COLOURS OF THE SUN ( 2. GRADE)

The main theme for the project was a travel through space. We chose to have main focus on the sun.

Our goals were that the pupils should:

  • Discover all the different colours of the sun

  • Learn different techniques to explore the suns colours.

  • Learn about different artists

  • Learn about the difference between colours on the earth and on the sun.

  • Learn that the sun is larger that the earth

  • Practice measuring and writing

PROJECT: SCULPTURE (9. GRADE)
During the fall semester, the pupils made small scale models of different sculptures. They then met with artist Evelyn Scobie, and with her help they choose one model to make a large scale version of.

PROJECT: DISH

The idea behind the project was to find an Arts and Crafts project that all our 10 graders had to complete before they left our school, thinking it would be nice for them to bring something concrete with them, as a reminder of their time with us.
